14 November 2012 - Solar Eclipse Viewer

Bright and early at 7.30am today I was out in the back yard
trying to take a photo of an image of this morning's solar eclipse.

We only got a partial eclipse in Adelaide.
Up in Palm Cove in Queensland they got to see the full eclipse.

Back in Ye Olden Days my Dad showed us how
to watch an eclipse safely by projecting the sun's light
through a very small hole in card onto a sheet of paper.
You get to watch a tiny solar eclipse image on the paper.

You should never look straight at the sun
as it will cause immediate and irreparable damage
to the retina in your eye

I used a 2mm knitting needle (US size zero)
to make the holes in my viewer.
