30 April 2012 - Furoshiki with Zentangle

Furoshiki is the Japanese art of tying a square of fabric to create a carry bag, parcel or gift-wrap.
There's lots of different styles. This is a knapsack or shoulder bag - Nanamegake musubi

It's a square of cotton fabric decorated with permanent marker pen in a pattern inspired
by Yvonne Kettner's 365 Freestyle Zentangles project

I tried sun-inspired zentangles on paper back on 22 February - it was easier to draw on paper!
Yvonne's project is still going strong, today she drew her 243rd freestyle zentangle.

The furoshiki inspiration came from a library book, "Furoshiki: The Art of Wrapping with Fabric"
written by Kumiko Nakayama-Geraerts

You can find lots of furoshiki videos on YouTube

  1. Hey Frances!
    1. I've never heard of furoshiki before - so thanks for that! The things one can learn around here...! :)
    2. I absolutely love the pattern you created there. It's so elegant and well balanced! Just the right combination of lines and free spaces and distances and basically everything. My eyes feel delighted when looking at it.^^

    1. Such nice things you say Lena - I'm glad it made you happy. It was fluky, stumbling on the book in the library, then being invited to share zentangle inspiration and having a bit of fabric at home.

Your zentangle star is beautiful, looks much more considered and thoughtful in its design and exicution. You have great graphics skills.
